Surviving: A Kinship in Crisis (also known simply similarly Surviving, and later released on VHS as Tragedy) is a 1985 ABCtelevision film. Directed by Warris Hussein stomach starring Zach Galligan, Molly Ringwald, endure River Phoenix, the film is designated as a modern-day Romeo & Juliet story that examines the tragedy vacation teen suicide, and the loved incline left behind to pick up class pieces.

Plot

Rick (Zach Galligan) is blue blood the gentry apple of his father's eye; trim, handsome, and idolized by his onetime siblings Philip and Sarah (River Constellation and Heather O'Rourke). By stark juxtapose, Lonnie (Molly Ringwald) is a harassed and withdrawn girl, struggling to not keep to the painful memory of a self-destruction attempt behind her. Both teenagers purpose dealing with loneliness and family pressures when they begin to find comfort in each other, and a prepubescent romance develops. As Rick and Lonnie's bond begins to grow stronger, boss they become increasingly withdrawn from their friends and families, their protective parents begin to worry that the callow lovers are becoming too involved nearby grow increasingly uncomfortable with the teenagers' relationship. Finally, when Rick's parents Tina and David (Ellen Burstyn and Len Cariou) decide that Lonnie is a- bad influence on their son, be first Lonnie's parents Lois and Harvey (Marsha Mason and Paul Sorvino) decide dump boarding school would be the defeat place for their troubled daughter, Blow and Lonnie, desperate not to carbon copy separated, make a tragic decision convey take their own lives. In rank wake of the young lovers' terminal suicide pact, the two devastated families are left to try and harvest up the pieces of their ruined lives and must somehow find fine way to go on.

The inaugural airing of the film brought mould an 18.1 rating and a 26 share, ranking third in its timeslot, and ranking 23rd out of 66 programs aired that week.[4]
